Twitter feed update

Thank you to those of you who have already signed up to the Twitter service, I have received notification from several of you that wish to follow the Twitter stream. For the obvious security reasons, I won’t be able to approve your requests until I receive the written confirmation of your username from your child. Fortunately, I’m recognising all the names so far so I know which children to pester for slips!

If you haven’t yet signed up yet, please do as we hope it will be a really useful way of keeping informed about the trip – both before and during the week we are away.

Don’t worry if you’ve lost the information from the meeting – there’s a link on the post below this and you can send your username via your child’s diary.

I’ll be providing more helpful tips for using Twitter, including how to set up your phone to receive tweets as texts, over the coming weeks.

29/4/10 – Introduction

Hello all, and welcome to the Isle of Wight blog for 2010! A “blog” for those who don’t know  is short for ”web log” – basically, this will be an updated scapbook of news, pictures and information for this year’s trip.

It’s not too long to go now until the trip. Preparations are being made and we are having our meeting for parents tonight at 6.30 in the South Hall – please attend as this will be your chance to ask us any questions (this applies to adults and the pupils!).

As well as this blog which will be updated daily whenever possible, I have set up a Twitter feed. I shall be speaking about this at the meeting tonight, but if you are unable to attend, please see this letter to help out with setting up a Twitter account of your own (and the reasons why you should).

See you tonight!

Mr. Barnes

Writing Workshop

On 16th & 17th March, 2010 three pupils took part  in Writing Workshops at Temple Hill School.  Thomas Fisher (Thames), Billy Lowman (Ash) and Stephanie White (Oak) were lucky enough to work with famous authors Chris Powling and Denis Bond.

During the two days the pupils worked alongside pupils from other Dartford primary schools and took part in drama, discussions and writing. The authors were very enthusiastic and inspired the children to write a story on a subject of their choice.

Throughout the two days all the pupils had time to share their writing with the authors and generate new ideas together. All three pupils worked very hard and at various points in the day had their writing read aloud for everyone to enjoy!

Well done to all three pupils. It was a wonderful opportunity and a memorable experience.
Once the stories are complete they may even be published in a book! So watch out for their names in print.

Year Six Leavers’ Party 2010

What a civilised bunch of individuals!

What a civilised bunch of individuals... Will this year's party be as successful? Only with your help!

We held a brief meeting during the open afternoon to try to get support for this event. This event is run entirely by the year 6 parents and therefore we do need your support. We would like to thank the parents who did turn up for this meeting but it was a disappointing turn out as only 16 parents attended. We will need more help for this event to go ahead and would be pleased if you are able to help that you contact the school office with your name and contact number. We will need help with organising, purchasing (funds available), fetching and carrying, setting up, helping on the night, and clearing away.

Dress up as a runner day!

(also known as non-uniform day)

Children with Leukaemia is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting Britain’s biggest childhood cancer.

Mr. Ankrah (Year 5 Ash Class Teacher) will be running this year’s London Marathon to raise money for this cause.

If you would like to sponsor this event then please give your contribution to your child and add these details: (if you would like the charity to collect gift-aid on your sponsorship) name, first line of home address, postcode and the amount given

The children can dress up in running clothes (or other non-uniform if you can’t find any inspiration to dress like a runner!) on Friday April 23rd in honour of Mr. Ankrah’s attempt at the marathon. We wish him lots of luck!
