York Road School makes comprehensive provision for children with Additional Educational Needs. Learning needs are supported by a team of teaching assistants and specific literacy support is offered by a specific assistant in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Children with speech and language needs benefit from the additional resources of the Star Centre for both school assessments and programmes. Emotional and behavioural needs are supported by a range of in school programmes such as social skills groups, SEAL (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning), Talk and Draw and for children with greater needs, we offer therapeutic interventions. We work with other agencies to gain further advice and assessments and with Child Health to support those children with medical needs.
Our support is reviewed regularly and planned to achieve progress in reading, writing, self confidence, behaviour and social skills through targets on Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Additional sessions are planned so that children do not miss core subjects and feel fully included in all class activities.
Children with AEN make good progress at York Road and are generally happy members of our inclusive school community.
